Quarter 2 is coming to an end soon…are you planning on sending a quarterly NPS survey for your business? NPS stands for Net Promoter Score. Even if you’re not familiar with this term, you may know what an NPS is without knowing what it stands for. Have you ever received an email from a company asking you how likely you are to recommend them to a friend, family member, or colleague? If so, you have participated in an NPS survey.
Your NPS score boils down to how your customers feel about your brand. It’s a baseline of how customers view your product and service, and it can be a very valuable number to know and share with your team. Other customer satisfaction questions are often asked alongside an NPS survey, but the NPS score can only be generated from answers to the question “How likely are you to recommend this product or service on a scale of 1-10.”

To get your Net Promoter Score, simply subtract the percentage of Detractors from the percentage of Promoters. Scores can range from -100 (if every customer is a Detractor) to 100 (if every customer is a Promoter).
While average scores can vary by industry, generally any positive score (above 0) is considered “good,” 50 is “excellent,” and above 70 is considered “top of the line.”
The Temkin Group publishes an annual research study called “The Economics of Net Promoter Score.” Their 2017 findings discovered: “Compared to Detractors, Promoters are over four times more likely to repurchase from a company, over five times more likely to forgive a company if it makes a mistake, over seven times more likely to try new offerings from a company, and almost five times more likely to trust a company.” (Source: https://temkingroup.com/product/economics-net-promoter-score-2017/)
Wouldn’t it be great to know how many Promotors your brand has, as well as how many Detractors? Knowing these statistics and where the scores came from can help you make – and keep – your customers happy. Generally, higher NPS scores can indicate growth. If your customers are happy, your business is likely to be successful and therefore continue growing.
